Yu-Pa Chen Ng passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the age of 53 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on June 17, 1964 in Taichung, Taiwan to her parents Chin-Fong Chen and Chin-Chae Pong, who have both preceded her in death. Yu-Pa is survived by John Ng, her loving husband of 23 years, her children: Zhen-Zhu Sue Ng, Hao-Kuan Reagan Ng; her siblings: Mow-Zee Chen, Yu Ru Chen (Michael Hung), Ping Tsan Chen (Hsiu Huei), Ping Tsen Chen (Su Jin Han), Hai Being Chen (Eng Lin Hei) and many other loving family members and friends.
Yu-Pa had many accomplishments throughout the years. Among her proudest achievements where when she received her Associates Degree in Accounting and Statistics at the National Taipei College of Business in 1985 and also when she got her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of Incarnate Word in 1989.
While attending the University of Texas at San Antonio she met fellow student Mr. John Ng. Yu-Pa then received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration at that university two years following the previous degree in 1991.
After taking a break from school and going back to visit Taiwan Yu-Pa returned to marry the love of her life, Mr. John Ng, on August 6, 1994.
Then after two years back in school, Yu-Pa received her second Master’s Degree in Computer Science at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2000.
Yu-Pa’s degree’s earned her great positions with Dell from 2000-2001 and with the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (VERDICT) from 2001-2003. But Yu-Pa had always wanted to teach and it wasn’t until she started working at the San Antonio Chinese Culture Institute from 2004 until 2006 when that dream was realized. She then became working as a Computer Science instructor at San Antonio College in 2005.
Soon after Yu-Pa started at San Antonio College she began a new journey, the adventure of Motherhood. When her children were old enough she brought each of them to the San Antonio Chinese Culture Institute to begin learning more about their culture.
As evident from her degree’s Yu-Pa enjoyed the world of Technology and Science. Besides being a serious fan of Star Trek, the Matrix movies, and all movies dealing with AI, she really enjoyed programming in general, and was a Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) and a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Yu-Pa was also a proud Member of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). Yu-Pa also earned the Southwestern Bell Scholarship and the University of Incarnate Word Transfer Scholarship.
Yu-Pa had a love of Nature as well. She loved the serenity of being on the beach and enjoyed walking along the shoreline and searching for pretty stones. She also loved gardening and really enjoyed the beauty and smell of roses and azaleas.
Her love for Teaching, Technology, Science and Nature were fulfilling, but they did not define who she was. Of all the titles and accomplishments she achieved throughout her life, the one she was most proud of was being a mother. Yu-Pa will be greatly missed by her family, friends and the many lives she has touched.
