It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zenaida Gonzalez, age 89, on February 17, 2026, at her home in San Antonio, Texas. Zenaida, or Cindy as many knew her, was born January 17, 1937 to Anita and Manuel Zamora in Pleasanton, Texas and was the eldest of 6 children. In May of 1961, she married Richard Gonzalez and together they raised 3 children. They remained intensely devoted in love and service to each other until the end and will have been married 65 years this May.
Cindy was a talented seamstress frequently making clothing and costumes for both her children and grandchildren throughout the years. It was a gift that went hand in hand with her love of being “done up” in dressy clothing and jewelry. She had a 17-year career at JC Penny’s which brought her much joy.
She loved singing and dancing- especially to Mariachis- and a good margarita.
She was also an incredible cook and could whip something up for her family with ease. Her infamous cheese enchiladas, especially beloved by her grandchildren, will always be a favorite dish.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Anita and Manuel Zamora, and her brother, Johnny Zamora. She is survived by her husband, Richard Gonzalez; their 3 children, Rebecca Garza & spouse Rene’, Theresa Schuler & spouse Mark, and Richard Gonzalez Jr. & spouse Cordelia; as well as 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive guests from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary, located at 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78212. Following the visitation, a Rosary will be recited at the same location starting at 7:00 p.m.
The following day, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 10:00 am a Mass will take place at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, located at 1314 Fair Ave #2, San Antonio, Texas 78223. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
