Cheryl was born and raised in San Bernardino, California by her loving parents, Art and Pat Wall. In spite of her physical handicap, she had a very positive attitude and wonderful parents who encouraged and supported her educational endeavors. She graduated from Pacific High School in 1962 and went on to attend San Bernardino Valley College and California State College, San Bernardino. After graduation, Cheryl obtained a Teaching Credential which launched her career in education. She became an elementary school teacher at Carnelian Elementary School in Alta Loma, California, where she taught full time and as a substitute teacher for thirty years before retiring. Parents and students loved her for demonstrating how with persistence and hard work you could succeed, even with physical challenges.
Cheryl met her husband, Doug Thomson, in the Empress Room at Empire Bowl in Redlands one chilly Saturday night in late 1969. Doug went that night to meet an old classmate from Redlands High School who happened to bring along her friend, Cheryl. They had a wonderful band playing favorite songs of the Beatles, and Doug asked Cheryl to dance. That was when the romance started. They danced together all night, and when leaving,
Cheryl said, "I hope to see you again soon!" Doug was smitten by her warmth and loving charm, and they were married seven months later. They have one daughter, Pam, who has worked for Walmart for thirty years.
Cheryl was a woman of abiding faith and gratitude, who began and ended her day by reading the Bible. Like many people, she had favorite verses, like the 23rd and the 91st Psalms, which she would pray with every day. Cheryl and Doug have been active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Upland for fifty years and have been married for over 53 years. Both would say that their faith and mutual love for God have blessed and strengthened their marriage in countless ways over the years.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Doug Thomson; her daughter, Pam Shea of Menifee; her sister, Joan Clark of Yucaipa; her brother-in-law, Mike Clark of Yucaipa; her nephew, Colin Clark of Beaumont; her niece, Caitlin Clark of Riverdale, Maryland, and her great nephew and niece, Rylan and Ayden Clark of Beaumont.
