He was born in Chiefland, Florida and, after graduating high school, enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951. He was stationed at various locations, including France and Germany, and returned to the U.S. in 1960 where he continued his service at Norton Air Force Base. He ran Norton’s Film Library through 1970 while completing his AA degree at Valley College. He was later promoted to the Defense Audio Visual Agency as a film producer and sound editor until he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1987.
Upon his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Elva, while enjoying the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid gardener and possessed an incredibly vast knowledge of horticulture from the many years he lived on a farm in Florida. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, landscaping, reading, genealogy, as well as caring for our family pets.
Harold was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner and lector at St. Bernardine’s, Holy Rosary and St. Adelaide’s churches.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Elva Allen, and three children: Mark (Gina) Allen, Julie Allen, and Frances (Tony) Ozbolt, along with granddaughter Lindsey (Mike) Boyd and great grandson, Julian.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, Ryan Allen of Yucaipa, CA.
His presence will be greatly missed by his family and those who were blessed to be a part of his life.
The Allen family would also like to extend their appreciation to his dear and devoted caregivers: Maria Ortiz, Yolanda Gonzales, and Susie Munoz as well as Redlands Hospice and Deacon Mike, who provided solace to Harold and our family during our time of sorrow.
