Iris Marlene (Smith) Liddell, a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, was born on May 15, 1948, in Auburndale, Florida, to Ernest Edward Smith and Isabelle (James) Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised in the Auburndale/Winter Haven area alongside her seven siblings: Leola James Keel and Ernest Smith Jr. (both deceased), Vivian Smith Collins, Maxwell Smith (Sylvia), Donald Smith, Phillip Smith, and Wanda Smith Brown.
From an early age, Iris gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the age of eight at First Baptist Church of Auburndale. Her love for the Lord remained the foundation of her life, and her faith grew stronger with each passing year. She was unashamed in her bold praise, often lifting her voice in gratitude and thanksgivings, encouraging others to remain faithful to God, attend church, and honor the Lord in tithes, offering, and in all things.
Iris dedicated her life to serving others both spiritually and professionally. She faithfully served for 45+ years at Loveland Church in Fontana as a member of the Bereavement Ministry, the Health Ministry, and the Servants Without Borders Life Group. She also volunteered with the Adopt-A-Block Pantry, helping provide for those in need. Her joyful spirit, genuine kindness, and unwavering faith made her a blessing to all who knew her.
Her passion for caring for others was also reflected in her career as a nurse. After pursuing her education and becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse, she continued her studies to become a Registered Nurse, serving faithfully for forty-two years, including twenty-five years at San Bernardino Hospital. She retired in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and excellence.
In her retirement, Iris cherished time with her four grandchildren and remained devoted to her spiritual walk, faithfully attending Sunday School and church services. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and traveling.
On March 20, 2026, after a brief illness, Iris was called from labor to reward. Though she will be deeply missed, we are comforted in knowing that she is now in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly—resting in His peace, rejoicing in His glory. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons : Franklin Ross & Tyrone Liddell; two daughters-in-law: Natalie Ross & Marlene Liddell; Four grandchildren : Natasha Ross, Miles, Micah & Malik Liddell; two sisters: Vivian Collins & Wanda Brown; Three brothers: Maxwell Smith, Donald Smith & Phillip Smith; several nieces & nephews and a host of other relatives.
“Well done, good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matthew 25:23)
