Born in Cushing, Oklahoma to Ruby Ogletree and Claude Musgraves on October 31,1945, Jim died at the age of 74 on June 30, 2020 in Riverside, California. Jim passed away from complications related to a Leukemia diagnosis of only a few months. Jim lived in Crestline, California and attended Woodlands Church.
Jim moved with his family from Oklahoma to Southern California in 1962 after his junior year in high school, he was very active in high school sports playing football, baseball and basketball and he graduated from Orange High School in 1963. For his first career, he worked for Pacific Bell for over 29 years as a splicer, worked as a supervisor for other communications companies and later served as a school bus driver for the Rim of the World School District for 15 years, retiring in 2019. He enjoyed this job very much and he was fondly known as the Santa Claus bus driver because he was a big teddy bear, with a jolly demeanor and grey beard.
Jim was survived by his sweetheart and wife of 32 years, Louise Musgraves, his two children Scott Musgraves and Darcy Watson as well as four stepdaughters; Laurie Jones, Dyan Braun, Roxanne Hilton and Heather Helmick. He was a loving and attentive “Papa” to 19 grandchildren, Sean, Tyler, Avery, Corey, Julianne, Samuel, Jimmy, JT, Maggie, Robert, Marina, Shelby, Grant, Tyson, Jacqueline, Joshua, Carli, Kayla and Cassie as well as 6 great-grandchildren, Legacy, Parker, Heather, Braydon, Daniel and Dezmond.
Jim was very proud of his 36 years of sobriety and was a great support to countless other men in recovery, whom he served as advisor, sponsor and friend. He was a man of faith, and over the years he was passionate about supporting others going through divorce and addiction recovery by creating and overseeing divorce recovery groups, singles groups, and men’s bible study groups.
Jim loved to play golf with a group of close friends whom he fondly called the Unplayable Liars (he would want us to mention he had a 9 handicap at his peak which is “not too shabby”), he also loved to play racquetball, eat good food, and spend quality time with his family. He loved a good football game and methodically and joyfully ran a football pool for 3 decades. Jim could always be found at sporting events for his kids and many grandchildren cheering from the stands. He also loved to take trips in his camper with his sweetheart to San Diego and Lake Tahoe. Jim was loved for his warmth, jovial laugh, acceptance and loving kindness to others and will forever be missed.
Written by his Daughter who loves to tell the “long story”.
