I had heard of Joan Mayhew Catering when moving into Redlands. It wasn't until much later that I realized that the loving lady in the back row of Bible Study was one and  the same. I loved wrapping my arms around her neck in a big hug, and she always showed her happiness in greeting me. Her generosity of service in providing a yearly meal to our study was always the highlight of the summer.  The love of her husband, Pat, continues to keep her memory alive. It speaks volumes of how precious she was to him. We so miss her even years after her passing.  Christine Washburn, Redlands

I first met Joan back in the 70s when I worked for her catering company as a temporary staffer during my college years. I was so impressed by her incredible work ethic and how kind she was to her employees. I did not always experience that with other employers.
Fast forward to the 21st century: I remet Joan and Pat at our home Bible fellowship. They blessed us weekly with wonderful food and again that wonderful kindness I had experienced with Joan so long ago.Every week Joan would greet me with a kiss and ask me what was going on in my life, even though she did not always feel well herself.
 She was always so unselfish, even later when she was in the nursing home she would turn the attention away from herself. 
I feel privileged to have known Joan and will always cherish her memory until I see her again in Heaven. Thankfully, God left us Pat who is a delight as well.

I first met Joan in 1975 when she "catered" our lunches at Norton AFB.  We developed a close friendship and not only did myself and others I know use her professionally, she was always a good friend and someone I enjoyed speaking with.  She catered our dinner trians at the railway museum, did a big party for me at L.A. Union Station in the Harvey House, and did an assortment of activities at our home and business.  One of my favorite things to do was to stop by and see her when she had the restaurant in Redlands/Loma Linda.  It was always tough getting her to let me pay for my pastrami sandwich, but I was insistent and won more times than I lost.  When I would come over we would talk about everything from the weather to politics.  Joan taught us a lot.  She taught us about hard work and treating everyone as though they were special.  She earned the title "Mom"

Joan Morgan was one of the most loving women I know.  She laughted with you, cried with you and was always anxious to pray with you.   Needless to say she was giving, a great hostess and a great cook. Best of all she loved the Lord. She walked with Him and His love shined bright in her. She truly had "the joy of the Lord."

Joan was a very, very special human being.  She helped me to realize my dream of attending college.  I am proud to have known her.  May she rest in peace.

Joan was such a beautiful woman.  In the short time I knew her, she made me feel so welcome, loved, and accepted.  I will miss her beautiful smile and happy southern accent.  I'm so happy to have become a part of her family and to have known her even for the short time I did. I'm a better person to have known her.  I will miss her.

Joan was a very special sister to me.  Pat brought her to meet us and we fell in love with her immediately.  She was so special to me.  We could talk about anything or just sit and be quiet.  I love her so very much and miss her more than I can say.  God has accepted her into Heaven with open arms.  Goodbye my Joanie!

I am Lew and Shirley Royal's son. My family owned the Alpine Restaurant on Rancho and Rialto. Joan was always my "Aunt" growing up. The Alpine was a melting pot for a lot of folks who knew My dad and went on to culinary careers. Joan and I went to the Caribbean together when she came to Louisiana with my Mom. She owned the finest surf and turf in Calcasieu Parish. I will miss her dearly. God bless.

My Grandma Joan holds a special place in my heart.  She was an exceptional woman and lived a life with an abundance of love.  She was a woman of great wisdom.  I can recall several times when we would just talk about some of the principles she modeled her life after.  Eventhough she was my Grandma she was also my Mentor in Life.  Today, I still hold tight the principles that she modeled her life after.  I am blessed to share part of my life with my Grandma and know that her "Upgraded" Eternal Life in Heaven is more Amazing than she or anyone else could ever fathom.

Joan was my "Other Mother". As a child,I would go to her house and sweep the floor, or outside the front door and she would give me a quarter. I can look back through my childhood photos to this day and remember every outfit she gave me. Joan has known me all my life and even lived with us for a while in the old days. She and mom were best friends and worked at the Charlotte Police Dept. together. I remember her telling about Granny Alice (my grandmother)making her and mom eat their oatmeal every day. She was always a hard worker, well organized and friendly to everyone. As a child she amazed me with having six pots on the stove for a meal that was piping hot. She juggled those pots and it all came off at the same time. My trips to Ca., La. and Vegas to spend time with her are in my heart forever. Joan, just do me one favor, please give mom a big hug for me, there is a hole in my heart for you both. Love always and forever. Pat, we love you, keep in touch.

It has taken me a while to start writing.... Mama Joan meant more to me than I could ever know. I guess it is because we got so very close during her last months, weeks, and then days. I came from WA. state to take care of her along with my Dad. Joan has always been a wonderful gift to my Dad and to all of his family. We adopted her as our own Mom and she adopted us as her own children. We miss her so much around the house and not hearing her gracious southern accent that always asked, "how are ya, Honey". It was such a pleasure to take care of her. I would do it all over again. My assurance of peace, faith, and a giggle once in a while is that she is with our Lord Jesus having a great time (and probably helping out with his banquet tables). Love and Miss you Mama Joan. Grandma Joan was one of the most amazing women I have met. She was a listener and chose her words with thought and care. She taught me about a love only a grandmother can give and showed me this through our greetings and talks.  Just hugging, kissing and telling her I loved her made all my visits worth it. I will miss her dearly; more than I could ever explain in words, but she is in the greatest place one could ask to be in now.  Grandma, thank you for teaching me about love and giving it to me! Joan provided warm and gracious service to so many in the Inland Empire.  In particular, she could be counted on by the Jewish commuity for every kind of service and for attention to the smallest detail whether in the mind of her customer or in keeping with tradition.  Her ability to listen and to help with virtually any kind of arrangements at every monetary level was amazing.  My awareness dates back to my parents and others at Temple Beth El in Riverside.  Because of that knowledge, there was only one person I considered for catering my wedding in 1975 ... Joan.

Aunt Joan gave so many people their first joba and first chance at life.  I remember all of Aunt Joams "adopted kids" at Joan Mayhew Catering.  Aunt Joan was a wondeful and specail pesron, and she is now in Jesus's arms.  God Bless you aunt Joan and I will miss you and love you forever. Aunt Joan throught out my life you were one of the biggest influence's from the time I was very young and through out my military career the life lessons you thought me was something I always keep close to me. I have always been very close to you and you never went soft on me because I was your nephew in fact your were harder on me which really I didn't mind one bit. I feel somewhat blessed I got to see you during Christmas only to lose you before I could get home from over seas I guess I felt cheated but the truth is your in a much better place and the big guy will take care of you from on. I cried for hours after hearing of your departure and then something told me you were ok now. I'm home today and will be there tomorrow with you my love for you has no bounds and I have been very thankful that a wonderful person as you has graced and blessed my life. Joan was Mother, client, confidente and a treasure beyond compare. We shared so many experiences. I was out of law school, she was building a business. We would share responsibility for creating locations in Louisiana and California. We would bail each other out from overcommitments. She would feed me nonstop. The Temple, Early Serra breakfasts, the original shop, several restaurants and deli locations, Picnics in the Glen , an Orange Show experience, birthday and other celebrations, funerals and weddings, all so lovingly and carefully executed. I came to know her family, old and new, blood and adopted. A better boss no one ever had....part of us passes with her,,,,,,,,with grand memories and rich traditions. We are the lucky ones.

My sister was my best friend all my life. We have always been close. We came from a family of ten children. I will always miss her. Not only did we work together but we did everything together. She was my mentor . I love her now and forever..No one will ever know how much I will miss her.But I also know she is home with our Mother and Grandmother. I love you sis...Phyllis

Mom was special. She was always a lady, and that is very hard to find in these times. I love her so much, it is hard to express in words the loss I feel.  We welcomed her into our family with open arms and now the Lord welcomes her into heaven with the love only a father can give. Lord, can you give her a kiss on the cheek for me until I see her again?

Oh my gosh I have so many happy memories of Joan!  Joan always did our catering over 30 years at Bank of Redlands and then Redlands Centennial Bank/1st Centennial Bank.  Pat and Joan became my friends too.  Joan was always sweet with her "catch-you-off-guard" humor.  It was SO funny, because you never expected it, and it was delivered with a delightful southern accent!  Pat would come to argue over the state of the economy or over the price of the Bank stock, but we always smiled in the end.  Joan and Pat were proud of "their Bank" and I was humbled by thier trust and support.  Joan knew everybody and everybody knew and loved Joan!  Catering for, and to so many in town and now, cooking and directing others around the Lord's table. Pat, when you're ready, let's go to Las Brasas and celebrate our girl.  She was our jewel.  I love you Joan.

I'm going to miss our quiet times together, she was the kind of person you could sit with without talking, and never feel awkward about the silence.  I will miss Her greetings to me as I come through the kitchen door to visit mom and dad. Mom was a beautiful woman, She never said an unkind word, she was a great listener, and had a sweet and generous spirit.  Trudy (the other daughter)

My Grandmother was a great woman!  She taught me a lot of valuable lessons. She has left wonderful memories in my heart. I will miss her deeply.

As a retired employee of First American Title Insurance Company in San Bernardino, I would like to extend my condolences to Joan's family and tell you that we ALWAYS used Joan's catering services for functions at FATCO.  We loved her and looked forward to seeing her each time.  She truly became "one of us" at FATCO.
