Kathy was the daughter of John E. Maxwell, Mrs. Chester (Frances) Stayton and the stepdaughter of Dr. Chester A. Stayton, all of whom preceded her in death. Born in Washington, D.C., Kathy was raised in Indianapolis. She graduated from North Central High School and attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO.
Kathy was a resident of Los Angeles for 52 years. Kathy had a successful career in retailing beginning as a department store buyer and rose to a senior executive with Warnaco Corporation. At Warnaco, she built the White Stag and Catalina brands sold exclusively at Wal Mart stores. As a top management executive, Kathy traveled the world, mentored hundreds of people, and was a creative force in fashion. Her vision and ability to understand what the customer wanted was part of her genius and success.
Kathy was devoted to her family and friends and she enjoyed participating in her nieces’ and nephew’s varied activities. In retirement, she traveled, was a pet therapy volunteer with her dog, was passionate about art, design and theatre and spent weekends at her cabin in Lake Arrowhead. Kathy had a curiosity, spirit and enthusiasm for life that impacted all of those who knew her.
Kathy is survived by her sisters Patty Maxwell, Jane (Jim) Maxwell Hulbert, Elisabeth (Mike) Maxwell Gonella, Mike (Carol) Stayton, Tom (Barbara), Bob (Mary) Stayton, Barbara Stayton, Carol Stayton, nieces, nephews, her beloved dog Carson and her dearest friends, Mick Dowd and Michael Romaniello.
A memorial service will be held in Los Angeles. Plans are pending. Donations may be made be made online to The Glendale Humane Society (CA).
