Robert L. Fry, age 73, passed away on August 13, 2019 at the Jerry L. Pettis VA Hospital in Loma Linda, CA. He was born in Long Beach, CA, but grew up in Bellflower. Bob left Bellflower High School in 1962 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. While stationed in South Carolina, he met his future wife Georgia Evon Morales. They drove across the country, stopping in almost every state along the way with car problems, and found their way to Norton Air Force Base where they were married on June 17, 1967. He served 2 tours, 1 in Vietnam in 1965 and in Japan in 1970, and was discharged from the Marines as a Sergeant after 10 years of service. He and Evon settled in San Bernardino, CA in 1972 where they had their two daughters, Betty and Robin. Bob was a Truck Driver for 37 years and retired form CEMEX in 2009. Bob was an avid gun collector and even pressed his own ammunition. Many an afternoon was spent testing rounds out in Lytle Creek and Manzanita Flats, shooting “cans” and looking for the infamous "M.T." He became an amateur carpenter in his latter days and made many cutting boards, chairs, hope chests and other well-crafted workings for friends and family. Bob loved to barbecue, and we would all consider him a BBQ master. He has perfected his craft over many years of toiling over the BBQ and his Smoker to find the perfect blend of smoky flavor and tender bites of steaks, ribs, and just about anything else that can be cooked on a BBQ. We all benefitted from his many attempts at finding the exact flavor he desired. We know that he is up in Heaven now with a perfect blend of mesquite, applewood, and hickory wood chips smoking the whole place out and we expect for it to be a little cloudy for some time as he perfects his craft once again for the man upstairs. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Georgia Evon Fry; his daughters, Betty Fry and Robin (Travis) Crandall; grandchildren, Matthew, Katelynn (Deric), Andrew, Gabriella, and Brianna; 3 great grandchildren, Rylee, Cheyenne, and Daxter; sister-in-law, Susie Christ; nieces and nephews, Scott, Melinda, Cindy, Kathy, Jim, Billy, and Kim; and a host of extended family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Zayda Fry, his siblings, Maxine and William Fry, and his granddaughter, Samantha. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 3pm at Mt. View Mortuary, 570 E. Highland Ave, San Bernardino, CA 92405. He will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery at a later date.
