Ruben Juarez

August 25, 1934 – May 1, 2025
Obituary of Ruben Juarez
IN THE CARE OF

Mt. View Mortuary & Cemetery

Our beloved father Ruben Juarez passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2025 at the age of 90 in San Bernardino. He was born on August 25, 1934 in San Bernardino, CA to parents Nasaria Palazzo and Jesus Juarez. Ruben was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Cecilia. Survivors include three sons, Alberto, Ruben James, John David, and daughter Lisa, sister Nancy, brother Alfred, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruben attended Mt. Vernon Elementary, Sturgis Junior High, San Bernardino High School, and San Bernardino Valley College, class of 57. Ruben was drafted into the U.S. Army for 2 years. He attended the Engineer School at Fort Belvoir, VA and assigned to a Construction Battalion as a surveyor in Texas. He completed his service in the U.S. Army in June 1959.

After the military, he worked at the San Bernardino County Road Dept. as a draftsman, surveyor, and construction inspector. On July 1, 1963, he went to work for the City of San Bernardino Engineering Dept. at City Hall. In the design section he worked on capital improvement projects. He worked 34 years and retired in September 1997.

Later on he worked part-time with the City as a designer and plan checker. Two of his proudest design projects were University Parkway roadway between the 215 Freeway and to Kendall Drive and the other project, Shasta Drive Storm Drain Spillway. He would say “You are only as good as your last project.” In other words, give it your best. He also was a union steward and President of San Bernardino City Employees Local 122 AFSCME 1984-1985.

In 1964 he met Cecilia Gonzalez at the Rainbow Garden Ballroom in Pomona, CA (Love at first sight). ”She is the one for me, a beautiful girl from Colombia, South America.” They were married shortly thereafter on February 13, 1965 and had been together for over 50 years.

One of his greatest joys was going to the beach with his family on the weekend close to his birthday of August the 25th. Also his sister Nancy and brother Alfred & families, sister in laws, nieces Carole, Deanna, Maria and nephew David Michael & families would show up and we all had a good time at Laguna Beach. Laguna Beach was his favorite beach and this event has been going on yearly for over 20 years. He also thanks his brother Alfred for making the travel arrangements for him and his wife Cecilia, sister Nancy, and including himself for the trip to Europe: Paris and London in 1998. He devoted his entire life to his family and will be greatly missed.

We can’t thank him enough for being the best dad that we were fortunate to have. We love you Dad.
