December 9, 1931 to September 11, 2025
Shirley A Marley, at the age of 93 years old passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025 in San Bernardino, CA.
Shirley was born on December 9th, 1931. Her parents were Ernest and Glada Ferguson. She was the youngest of six children. They lived on a farm near the small town of Oak, Nebraska. The home had once been a "Road House" on the Oregon Trail in the earlier days.
She was raised to love the Lord as a child and loved Him until the day she passed. She was very involved in any church she went to. She opened her home many times to help others that needed a place to stay. She would give up different holiday events with her family to work at "Soup Kitchens" because her heart was always filled for helping people less fortunate than her.
She graduated High School in Nelson, Nebraska; received a teaching credential from Kearney State Teachers College and began teaching at the age eighteen years old. She went on to earn a B.A. degree in Education from Easthern New Mexico University, in Portales, New Mexico; and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Redlands, CA. Shirley was a school teacher for over 36 years. She spent most of those years teaching in the San Bernardino School District as a kindergarten teacher. She loved teaching and was saddened to have to retire. She didn't stay home for long though. She started volunteer work at Redlands Community Hospital until 2020 when covid hit. At that time she was forced to retire permanently at the age of 89.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Glada Ferguson, her brother Dale, her sisters: Alice, Billie, Ermie, Carolyn, and her granddaughter Rebecca.
Shirley is survived by two sons, Tony Marley and wife Titi of The Woodlands, TX; Craig Marley and wife Patty of San Bernardino, CA, four granddaughters; Nicole Bennett and husband Aaron of Fort Drum, NY; Nacy Knutson and husband Ryan of Highland, CA; Heather Marley at the University of Melbourne, FL; and Leah Marley, five great-grandchildren; Emily and husband Zach, Kaylee, Brooke, Savannah, and Zachary; and one great-great granddaughter, Freya.
What Shirley (Sam to her kids) left her family was her love and to have a strong belief in God.
