February 9, 1952- October 24, 2021
After many complications from colon cancer, our precious brother and uncle Tyrone left us to be with the Lord on Sunday afternoon, October 24, 2021 at the age of 69.
He is preceded in death by our parents, Reverend Rufus Slack, Sr. and Minnie Star-Slack and our brothers, Ardell Slack and Jerry L. Slack.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory:
His sisters: Daisy B. McFarland: Winnsboro, Louisiana, Varios S.
Spears: Bakersfield, California, Hatress V. Harrison & Willie Harrison: Vallejo, California; Robin Crittenden & Harry
Crittenden: Suisun City, California and Vickie Slack: Vallejo, California.
His brothers: Reverend Rufus Slack, Jr. & Irene Slack: Killen, Alabama, Dan O. Slack and Haturia J. Slack: DeSoto, Texas, Timothy R. Slack & Dietra Slack: Castro Valley, California.
Tyrone was born in Baskin, Louisiana on February 9, 1952. After graduating from high school, he moved to Barstow, California to live with his sister and her family. With great determination and strong work ethics, he succeeded. After graduating from Barstow College, he relocated to San Bernardino, California, where his education and work ethics continued-graduating from Cal State University San Bernardino with a BA in Education.
Tyrone pursued a career in education, where he started in 1977, as a substitute teacher at Hunt Elementary School. His abilities caught the eye of administrators, and he was hired. Teaching was his passion and it lasted until his retirement. He continued to work as a substitute teacher until he became too ill to continue. He motivated his students to excel. Every student was important and deserved respect.
Tyrone was blessed with the opportunity to travel the world because of his friend, Peter and family, who were in the military. He was able to see Paris, France, Greece, England, Germany and several other countries.
An avid gardener, he had the most beautiful property! His green thumb could bring life to any flower, plant, tree, vegetable that he touched. Tyrone was a natural interior decorator. His home was a comforting place, filled with many antiques and treasures that he could always find for a bargain. One just felt wrapped in his love when we visited his home!
Although a very private person, he touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He motivated you to live up to your best potential!
Above all else, Tyrone loved the Lord! Those values were instilled in each sibling by our parents. We were blessed to have been raised in a Christian home.
To friends and colleagues, thank you for being a part of his life!
To Dee, his friend and confidant, who was always there for him, when he was well and especially when illness set in, thank you for being there when we could not. Thank you for being a part of our family.
Thank you to all the medical professionals who took care of Tyrone during the last months of his life.
In lieu of flowers, our family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Tyrone P. Slack’s memory/honor.
A private burial have been planned.
Do you not know? have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:28-31
