After a valiant fight against cancer, Venice Beadette Brigham passed away at her home on August 16, 2018 in San Bernardino, California. She was born on December 27, 1963 in Los Angeles, California to Forrest and Darlene Brigham. She was the third of four children.
She lived most of her life in Los Angeles County until moving to Siskiyou County in late 1990s. She relocated to San Bernardino County in the early 2000s. Wherever Venice lived, she touched lives.
She considered accepting God into her life as one of her most significant actions, which she did when she joined Alcoholics Anonymous. With 26 years of sobriety, during her life, she sponsored over 20 women and men in recovery. She maintained contact with many who became long-time friends.
She was committed to public and non-profit service, and during her career worked with social service agencies. She received her Associate of Arts degree in General Education/Studies from College of the Siskiyous in 1998 and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from Simpson College in 2000. A life-long learner, Venice was in the process of obtaining a Masters in Public Administration from California State University San Bernardino when she became ill.
Venice loved life and laughter. She enjoyed spending time with friends, playing with her grandson and cooking. She never missed an opportunity to do home decorating, help a friend or learn something new. She could have a good time doing almost anything. She loved shopping – so much that her son Dezjon jokes that he cannot go into certain department stores because it reminds him too much of the many long hours he spent as a kid shopping with his mom.
Mourning her death are her son (Dezjon Knox), grandson (Reiley Medrano), siblings (Tangerine, Mischa and Forrest Brigham), halfsiblings (Molota and Forest Brigham), uncle (Richard Roberts), niece & great-niece (LaTeasa Brigham and Marley-Tye Brigham), nephews & great-nephew (Tyreece Brigham, Forrest L. Brigham and Noah Brigham), sister-in-law (Yolanda Brigham), and a host of first and second cousins (including Kenneth Jones, Regina Rosser and Monique Roberts). Many friends will seek solace in their memories of her: Annette Rogers, Mary Gibson, Andrea Hutton, Rhonda Taiwoo, Shirley Keegan, Hazel Rae, Cindy Lawson, Karen Von Kugen, LaTrell Gibson, Jamie Medrano and others. She was predeceased by her parents (Forrest and Darlene Brigham), two sets of foster parents (Mr. and Mrs. Cecil L. Johnson, and Mr. and Mrs. Willie J. Allen), step-mother (Rae Phiefer Brigham) and an aunt (Doris Jones).
Beloved and adored, rest in peace Venice from your family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gibson House for Men & Women in San Bernardino, CA.
