He was baptized at St. Agnes Catholic in Point Loma where he also received his First Communion and Confirmation.
He attended Cabrillo Elementary, Dana Junior High and Point Loma High schools.
He came to live at his grandmother and grandfather’s Point Loma Armada Terrace home with his sister Marilyn and brothers Steve and Mike.
Alan was very outgoing, always greeted you with a smile and kind word. He seened to know everyone in Point Loma. If you ever needed information about the Medina Family, the Festa, the commercial tuna fishing business in San Diego or how the Padres were doing—you’d call Alan.
He loved and followed many sports, but baseball and the Padres were his favorites.
He was very involved at the Portuguese Hall and served many years as a volunteer for the annual Festa working alongside his Aunts Evelyn and Luciele. When the Queen and her court paraded through the Hall kitchen Saturday night to thank all the workers, Alan would be there tossing rose petals.
He also helped out in the family fishing business. His Dad asked him to be a “Port Manager” and be ready to fly to Samoa when one of the family boats returned from a Western Pacific fishing trip. Alan would help coordinate the unloading, re-fueling and re-provisioning.
Alan loved his large and wide-spread family and attended multiple graduations, birthdays, weddings and funerals. He was very close to “Grammy” and lived with her until her death. He was also close to his sister, Marilyn who spent many, many hours visiting Alan both at his home and hospitals. Aunt Luciele and Alan worked many Festas together and talked Padres baseball all the time.
He will be missed, but we can always look forward to re-joining him in the future.
In addition to his sister and two brothers, Alan is survived by his half-brother John and his step-brother Rudy. His step-sister Deborah pre-deceased him.
