Alan Anthony “Tony” Zonkel passed away on Christmas morning. He was born on August 13, 1942 in Kewanne, IL to Rudolph and Bernice Zonkel. After graduating high school, Tony joined the United States Navy. While stationed in the Philippines, Tony met the love of his life, Betty. Together they raised their two children, moving to wherever the Navy sent them, and finally settling and retiring in San Diego. During his 31 year Naval career, Tony rose through the ranks from enlisted to Command Master Chief. During his retirement, Tony and his beloved dog, Jake, could be found watching tv together, hanging out on the porch, or watching the “ponies” run at Del Mar. Tony is survived by his loving wife Betty, daughter Trisha, son Alan Jr., son-in-law Joe (USN-Ret), daughter-in-law Miriam, and 4 grandsons Jonny (Army), Jason, Ben, and Matthew. A viewing will be held at El Camino Memorial 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd. San Diego, CA 92121 on December 30, 2022 from 10:00am to 1:30pm With a committal to start at 2:00pm.
