Alfred Leo Sturken Jr. of Cardiff by the Sea passed away on March 10th at the age of 89 due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Al was an only child born in New Orleans, La. He was predeceased by his mother Eva, his father Alfred Sr. his grandson Andrew Watkins and daughter-in-law Andrea Sturken.
Alfred left behind Ann, his loving and supportive wife of 64 years, children Lauren, Stephen, Brett, and Stephanie, as well as grandchildren: Spencer, Miles, Erika, Devin, Sarah, Wesley, Cole, and Jackson. He had one great-grandchild, Silas.
Alfred was an avid golfer, baseball, football, and basketball fan. Over the years, he held season tickets for many of his favorite teams.
Al served as a flight mechanic in the US Air Force from 1955 - 1959 in South Korea, and had a lifelong interest in aviation, eventually earning a private pilot's license and owning several planes.
Al started an automotive business with his longtime friend Alvarez Ganier in 1960. The business flourished for years in Los Angeles. Over time, the two Als figured out that there was more opportunity and less competition in the north part of the state. In 1969 they moved their families and the auto shop to San Jose. The business took firm root and grew until Al sold it to his eldest son Stephen in 1991.
To honor Al, family and friends will be celebrating a funeral mass at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Encinitas on Tuesday, April 2nd at 11 AM.
A private burial will take place on April 3rd at Holy Cross cemetery in Los Angeles.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at the Belmont Village Senior Living for their exceptional assistance and personal care during Al's illness.
