Amante was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and later served as an employee of the United States Border Patrol. He was born on March 16, 1951, to his parents, Guillermo Organo and Filomena Rapada. In order to come to the United States, he was adopted by his grandfather, Maximino Organo.
Amante arrived in the United States in 1970, entering through San Francisco, California, and lived with his Lola Roming. During this time, he worked multiple jobs, including a brief stint in the asparagus fields—an experience that lasted only one day. Soon after, he decided to join the U.S. Navy in 1971.
In 1973, while working in Port Hueneme, California, Amante met the love of his life, Dulcetacion. After just one year, they were married in December of 1974. In 1975, Amante received orders to Subic Bay, Philippines. Their first son, Christopher Delfin, was born in 1976, followed by their first daughter, Thesalee, in 1978. Later that same year, the family moved to Iwakuni, Japan.
After three years, Amante was stationed in Agana, Guam, where their second son, Marc David, was born in 1981. Four years later, the family returned to the United States and settled in San Diego, California, which would become their permanent home. In 1987, their fourth child, Irwin, was born.
In 1988, Amante received his final duty assignment to Charleston, South Carolina. After living there for four years, he retired from the Navy in 1991. When given the choice of remaining in South Carolina or returning to San Diego, the family chose to return home.
Following retirement, Amante pursued further education in computers. In 1993, he joined the U.S. Border Patrol in a role similar to his Navy position as a Storekeeper. He served for 11 years before retiring once again.
In his retirement, Amante enjoyed carpentry and had a true green thumb. He lovingly tended a backyard garden filled with calamansi, cherimoya, guava, apples, peaches, oranges, bay leaves, kamote tops, papaya, ampalaya, eggplant, tomatoes, bataw, sigarilyas, and okra. He also enjoyed raising quail and proudly built a quail coop in his backyard. He found joy in visiting the local casino to play Keno and spending time at the Del Mar racetrack placing bets. Later in life, Amante devoted much of his time to his grandchildren, who visited him nearly every weekend. He was known for teasing his granddaughters affectionately, often saying, “Oh, I love you—you’re so beautiful!”
Amante lived a full and meaningful life and will be remembered for his loving, generous, and giving spirit.
He is survived by his wife, Dulce; his children, Christopher Delfin, Thesalee, Marc David, and Irwin; his grandchildren, Robert, Ava, Mia, Aleia, and Amaya; and his sister, Myrna.
