Amparo A. Duarte, age 95 passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Brookdale River Valley Senior Living in Tualatin, Oregon. She was born January 8, 1924 in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico to Elvira Rodriquez. She married Elias Espinosa Duarte on July 12, 1943 in El Centro, California. She worked as a bookkeeper for Sears, Roebuck & Company, as a sales clerk for a bible bookstore, and as manager for the family owned “Duarte’s Barbershop” all in El Centro. She and her husband moved their family to San Diego in 1964 to establish a new business, eventually operating the barbershop at the El Cortez Hotel in downtown San Diego. Her many activities, with her husband, included facilitating the development of several Christian communities and churches in Mexico and in southern California.
She is survived by her son Elias Daniel Duarte and his wife Margaret Page Duarte, Wilsonville, OR: granddaughter, Margo Duarte-Ruiz and her husband Levi Ruiz, Portland, OR; granddaughter, Jessica Duarte, San Diego, CA; grandson Michael Duarte, Beaverton, OR; granddaughter, Gabriela Duarte and her husband Matthew McCullum, Beaverton, OR.
She is predeceased by her daughter Ilda Duarte; her mother Dona Elvira Rodriquez; her son David Duarte; and her husband, of sixty-four years, Elias Duarte.
Family, friends and other whose lives she impacted are invited to El Camino Memorial, Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd., San Diego, California, 92121 on Saturday February 1, 2019 at 2 p.m. to remember, grieve and celebrate a life lifted fully in Christian faith.
