Annakutty Jacob Uralil August 17, 1938-May 29, 2018

Annakutty Jacob of Elmont, New York passed away peacefully on May 29, 2018 at the age of 79. Beloved wife of Jacob Uralil. Devoted mother of Elizabeth Jaya Jacob-Kahn (Solomon Kahn), Berchman Joby Uralil, Annie Jincy Sanque (Richie Sanque), and Julie Ann Bellavia (Michael Bellavia). Beloved and loving Grandmother, also known as “Ammachi”, to Anjali and Deena Kahn and Willow Sanque. Annakutty is also survived by four younger sisters who cherished her: Aleyamma Raju Pachikara, Molly Mathew Illicattil, Cicily Cyril Nedumthuruthil, and Rosamma Chacko Maikuzhyil, all residents of New York/New Jersey. Fondly called “Chachi”, Annakutty is survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins as the oldest child in her generation from the Arackal family. Annakutty was born in Uzhavoor, Kottayam District, Kerala, India on August 17, 1938. Annakutty received her degree in nursing in 1959 which started a career spanning close to five decades. In 1966, she married Jacob Chacko Uralil, her partner in life for 51 years whom she was devoted to in sickness and in health. In 1976, by immigrating to the United States, Annakutty was able to offer her family a better life and greater opportunities. Her motto and message that she passed on to the next generation including her four children was “work hard”. She led by example by working two jobs until retirement in order to provide her children the best education possible. Her nursing career encompassed many clinical areas of expertise including cardiac care, intensive care, Geriatrics, and Psychiatry. Before retiring as a charge nurse from Parker Jewish Geriatric Institute and Nurse Supervisor at Creedmore Psychiatric Hospital, she received a distinction as Nurse of the Year from the State of New York. Annakutty was a devout Catholic with her faith being the foundation of her life’s purpose and her years of service to others. She lived a life which embraced her faith, her family, service, and living simply by paying it forward to others. She was an advocate for the poor and the underserved and a role model to many. Annakutty had an infectious smile and generous heart which touched the lives of everyone she met.
