"Mama" Annie Torres Segovia was born on July 22, 1930, in Tagkawayan, Quezon province but grew up and lived in Guinobatan, Albay in the Philippines. She loved to share stories of being raised in the Philippines. She took the responsibility of becoming the main provider to her 8 siblings when her father died and eventually went on to marry to Arthur Segovia with 8 kids of her own, in order of girl, boy, girl, boy (her favorite story to tell). She raised them all while working full-time as the Records Officer for the whole Bicol Region and was awarded by the President of the Philippines for her efforts in enhancing the livelihood of farmers through agrarian reform
Despite her hard work, there was not enough opportunity to provide for a huge family. so the family made the difficult decision to leave their motherland, separated from each other, to immigrate to the US.
She raised all 15 grandchildren who went on to have even more great grandchildren. Each of her grandchildren have their own iconic stories of her and how she shaped their upbringing. All of her grandchildren childhood consist of her legendary cooking. Her life motto was, "To die is to rest, and to eat is the best".
Even as her health declined and memory faded, she always had love to give and a joke to tell. She was loved wherever she went and was always the kindest, most hilarious, feisty, confident, stubborn, giving, and grateful soul.
She is LOVE in human form and our entire family will miss her million dollar smile and her sweet spirit every day. Thank you MAMA, and we love you forever.
