Annie Wang was a second-year psychology student with junior-level standing at the University of California, Santa Barbara and a cherished friend to many. Annie was born in La Jolla, on January 3, 1998, and passed away while she was attending UCSB in Santa Barbara on May 18, 2018.
Annie was a well-loved person in her community. She was known as compassionate, bubbly and positive. There’s not a time Annie didn’t have a smile on her face. It always shined bright no matter what day it was, and she lifted the spirits of all those around her with her charisma and charm. She always found the best in people. No matter what went wrong, she was that person to be there for you until the end. What happened is incredibly devastating to every single one of us in our family and all the lives she touched. Annie will always be loved and never forgotten.
Annie's high school friend, Thomas Kim said Annie was someone who always put others above herself and had an infectious happy attitude.
“I got to see this firsthand back in high school when we used to volunteer at a retirement home,” Kim said. “When we were in the memory care housing, she always put a smile on the residents’ faces, and genuinely found joy in helping others. She had this innate ability to befriend anyone, anywhere and at any time.”
Kim said even though he attended a different university, he still has never met anyone with Annie’s “inner light.”
“She shared her new love of running,” Kim added. “She shared her hopes to finding a career where she can help people. She shared her love for life. Nothing but love and happiness radiated from her.”
Christine Fan, Annie's childhood friend, noted that on top of being a cheerful and friendly person, Annie made a point to devote 100 percent of her attention towards the person she was talking to.
Annie “made you feel like you were the only person in the room,” Christine said.
Christine added that Annie loved her time at UCSB, especially the fact that it was by the beach.
Annie was an outstanding Honor Roll student at college, and cherished by her friends and professors at UCSB. As one of her professors wrote:
"Annie,
My anchor in class,
We were always rushing in together.
Sharp mind,
Huge smile.
One thousand white flowers."
Annie was deeply loved and adored by her family and friends. Her exuberance for life and gentle soul touched the lives of many throughout her 20 years on earth.
Annie shared the best with the world with her gentleness and kind heart.
May her spirit and love live on forever in our hearts!
