December 25, 1950 - October 9, 2021
Arthur Connors, who loved playing Santa Claus at San Diego children’s library events and at the Hotel del Coronado, died peacefully at home in hospice care on October 9, 2021 after a cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
Mr. Connors was born a Christmas Day baby in 1950, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Following a 24-year career in the Navy, which included sea and shore duty around the United States and in Europe, Mr. Connors settled in San Diego County after retirement from his last assignment at Special Boat Unit TWELVE, Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado.
Mr. Connors enjoyed many years volunteering and socializing at the Coronado Senior Center, where he organized, directed and hosted several follies shows for the members to showcase their talents. He earned an Associate’s degree from Southwestern College, and worked at the Hotel del Coronado and Lamb’s Players Theatre before fully retiring.
He is survived by his wife, Helena Dragos-Connors of Coronado; sister Ella Russo and brother-in-law Chuck Russo of Elizabeth, New Jersey; sister Marian Connors of Vero Beach, Florida; stepson Damon Dragos of San Gabriel, California; stepdaughter Nicole Clement of San Diego; and four grandchildren.
Military honors and a service will be at Miramar National Cemetery. A service also will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey.
In honor of his love for Santa and kids, the family suggests contributions to children’s programs at San Diego and Coronado libraries.
