Augusto “Tito” Ronquillo Beltran, 82, of Hemet, California passed away after a long illness on June 27, 2023 at Kindred Hospital in Perris, California. Augusto was born on October 7, 1940 in Lubao, Pampanga and is the only son of Emelia Ronquillo Beltran and Abelardo Vitug Beltran. He had four sisters, Estelita, Illuminada, Perla, and Josefina.
Augusto graduated high school from Lubao Institute and began college as an English major with hopes of becoming an English teacher. After a year of studies, he enlisted with the United States Navy to help support his mother and sisters. In June 1965, Augusto left his beloved home and family, and arrived at Naval Station Treasure Island in San Francisco. His first duty station was Imperial Beach, San Diego where he formed a friendship with Fernando Chavez, Jr., a fellow seaman. It was through this friendship that Augusto met the love of his life, Josefina Garces Chavez and the two were joined in Holy Matrimony on January 22, 1972. They made their home in San Diego where they raised two children, Penney and Joseph. After 20 years serving as an Aviation Storekeeper Petty Officer First Class, Augusto was honorably discharged with several awards and retired from the Navy in November 1985. He began a second career in supplies/logistics for Lockheed Martin and later for the Department of Defense. In 2005, Augusto retired from civilian service. Not long after, he experienced the painful, untimely death of his first wife. Wanting to fulfill their retirement dreams, Augusto bought a home in Hemet and traveled abroad. He married again in 2008 after finding love and companionship with Aida Cruz. Augusto spent his last few years attending to his home, caring for his wife until her death in 2022, treating his own illness, and spending time with those he loved.
During his lifetime, Augusto was deeply committed to his family, relatives, and friends. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who sacrificed and worked hard because he believed in the American promise. He was a devout Catholic who loved Christ and led a prayerful life. He was generous in giving his time and quick to lend a helping hand, make others laugh, tell stories, share home-cooked meals, and attend family celebrations. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, road-tripping, dinner-and-dancing, bowling, watching the Lakers and Padres, eating buffets, playing at casinos, and gathering with family and friends.
Augusto is preceded in death by his first wife, Josefina Chavez Beltran, who died November 2006; his second wife Aida Cruz Beltran, who died August 2022; his parents, Emelia and Abelardo Beltran; and his sisters Estelita Beltran, Illuminada Beltran, and Perla Beltran Soto.
Augusto is survived by his son, Joseph Chavez Beltran, and daughter, Penney Chavez Beltran and her husband, Mark Mendoza. He is also survived by his younger sister, Josefina Beltran Vitug, and her children Joel, Jolly, Joyce, Jojy, and Jinky. He will be lovingly remembered for his devotion, generosity, thoughtfulness, sense of humor, and love of life.
Memorial services will begin with a visitation on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 12 to 8pm. The funeral will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 10am followed by a committal ceremony with military honors. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all those who were a part of Augusto’s life, who have offered their condolence, love, and prayers.
