Barbara Anne Gay of San Diego, California passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the age of 90. Barbara was born on January 31, 1936, in Eagle, Nebraska. Barbara grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as the daughter of a school principal. She initially attended college at the University of Denver and ultimately received a master’s degree in education from the University of Maryland.
Barbara had a long and rewarding career as a high school teacher in Maryland and Texas. She loved teaching. Her dedication and hard work earned her the respect of both her students and colleagues. After retiring in 2010, Barbara and her husband Ray relocated to San Diego, California, to be closer to their family especially their grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her son David (Astrid); her grandchildren, Marcus, Sonja (Sean) and Chiara and her sister Jeanette Otten. Barbara was preceded in death by her son Steven and her husband Ray.
Barbara will be laid to rest in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, August 9, 2026, following a brief memorial service. Barbara’s kindness, character, and dedication will be remembered by her family and friends.
