Bayani Crisostomo Santero led an incredible life filled with dedication, love, and adventure. Born on February 20, 1938, in Mabolo, Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines, Bayani, also known as Ben, served in the United States Navy for 30 years, demonstrating unwavering discipline and a deep sense of duty. Following his military career, Ben dedicated 28 years of his life to the U. S. Postal Service, showcasing his strong work ethic.
Beyond his military and civilian career, he was a devoted family man. He was married to Mercedita Carlos Guevarra for 57 years, also with roots in Bacoor, Cavite. They lived in various places, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California, the Philippines, and Japan, raising their family. As a father of three sons, Michael, Mark, and Benjamin, he provided guidance, love, and support. His nine grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
When he wasn't with the family or enjoying the slots at the casino, Ben was a man of adventure. His passion for travel took him and Mercy to various corners of the globe including Australia, Russia, Egypt and the Netherlands where he relished experiencing different cultures and cuisines. He visited holy sites and sought spiritual enrichment during his travels. In addition to his adventures, Ben found tranquility in nurturing his garden, watching the Padres and Pilipino Teleseryes, and he enjoyed the mental workout of solving Sudoku puzzles.
Bayani embraced his Catholic faith, and it was an integral part of his life, providing him with strength and guidance. He is preceded in death by his father, Arsenio Mariano Santero, and his mother, Paulina (Crisostomo). He is survived by his older sister, Segundina “Ondeng” Tanaquin, his spouse, Mercedita (Guevarra); his children: Michael and Marla (Erojo), Mark and Hannah (Sapinoso), Benjamin and Jennifer (Caceres); and nine grandchildren, Sherylann, Sydney, Ariel, Nicolas, Dominic, Sofia, Celine, Zoe, and Kai.
