Bessie June Dagley

Dagley, Bessie June passed away on June 14, 2012 at her home in El Cajon, California. She would have been 92 years old on July 4th, 2012. She lived in San Diego County for the past 65 years living most of those years at her El Cajon home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorman L. Dagley who passed away on October 11, 2011. They had been married 65 years. They had 6 children: Cecelia, Carolyn, Michael, Catherine, Timothy, and Dorman

She was born in Shelby County, Alabama as Bessie June Roy. She was the middle child of 6 children who all preceded her in death. She was educated at Piedmont College in Alabama. Her tuition was paid by her brothers in the form of coal from her brothers’ coal mine. After college, she worked in Washington, D.C. in an office across the park from the White House. After that, she served in the Navy Waves. In 1946, while stationed in San Francisco, Ca, she met her future husband Dorman. He was a Navy Chief. After a whirlwind courtship, they married at Treasure Island in San Francisco, Ca.

After marrying, Bessie was a homemaker. Dorman retired from the Navy 1958. After that he worked at Convair in Kearney Mesa. During those years, they started a rental property business. At the height of their career, they owned and managed 34 rental properties in Imperial Beach and El Cajon, California. All of those rental properties in the family today.

The couple will be dearly missed, but the family takes solace in knowing that they are together again in heaven.

Funeral services will be held at Salli Lyn Chapel in Greenwood Mortuary in San Diego, California on June 25th, 2012, with viewing starting at 9:00 a.m. and the funeral at 10:00 a.m. Viewing will also be on Sunday June 24th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
