Bettye was born March 25, 1932 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Richard and Eleanore Hoye.
She was a loving and devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother (“GG”), and a friend to all whose lives she touched. She had a kindhearted Midwestern spirit whose passion was caring for others.
Bettye was an avid Girl Scout for many years, then graduated from Cathedral High School where she enjoyed working on The Echo Yearbook. She went on to work at the Union Pacific as a Key Punch Operator, and after moving to California in 1961 she worked for Fed Mart, General Dynamics and CSC in Data Systems as a supervisor and manager.
Bettye married her husband Marvin “Bucky” Reid on May 1, 1954. She was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Anne Pratarelli and Laura Aguayo (Guy).
Bettye is survived by her 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren - Danny, Cyrena (Kekoa), Taylor (Eric), and Nick (Eve), and 5 1/2 grandchildren - Po’okela, Jasmine, River, Kahaola, Adeline, and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin “Bucky” Reid, her half sister Louis Lowe and many friends.
Bettye was a lover of all animals, her Nebraska Corn Huskers, the San Diego Chargers, and her white wine with ice and a splash of water. She enjoyed camping and fishing, playing cards, reading, going to the movies and out to dinner with her family. Her favorite places to visit were family and friends in Iowa, her family in Hawaii and the slot machines in Vegas.
She was outgoing and vivacious - a symbol of power, beauty and grace, yet at times, stubborn. She was fiercely loyal to her family, friends and animals.
We will always remember her infectious smile, piercing blue eyes and caring personality. Her presence in our lives will be sorely missed.
Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Tell me if heaven has a garden
Could you take my mom, GG there
Walk her slowly to your flower bed
Pick her roses for all the words unsaid
Kiss her gently upon her soft cheek
Carry her, her legs are weak
Please tell her I’m OK down here
Does she see me, can she hear
I’ve heard heaven has a garden
With angels singing on a cloudy band stand
Up in heaven in that garden
Won’t you take my mom there by the hand
She left me with memories made of gold
Her gentle love was a wonder to behold
Ask her to sing her favorite song
From way down here, I’ll sing along
Won’t you take my mom there by the hand
