Bhupinder Singh Sandhu, 84, of San Marcos, California and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania passed away on September 27, 2018.
Bhupinder was born in Gujranwala, India on March 2, 1934. He graduated from Dyal Singh College, Karnal, India with an education degree. He went on to teach as a headmaster in Jalmana, India. He immigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1968 where he earned his Master’s Degree in special education from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a dedicated educator and taught special education for 32 years in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Bhupinder was a giving soul that helped many families pursue the “American Dream”. He had a jovial personality despite his many health conditions. He was fond of listening to music, playing chess and watching the Steelers! He was persistent and unyielding in his effort to win the lottery jackpot, the trifecta at the horse track and the slots at the casino. People were naturally drawn to his warm and welcoming nature. He retired in 2000 and spent his later years in San Marcos, California.
Bhupinder was married to Narinder Kaur Sandhu on June 30, 1964, and they were married for 54 years. Bhupinder is survived by his loving wife and three children, Mahesh, Pinky and Dolly. He was further blessed with (5) grandchildren Hannah, Brendan, Kaden, Charlie and Addison.
Because Bhupinder committed his life to teaching, he understood the power of education. His wish is to educate a gifted student, who cannot afford an education, from his village of Peont, India. Thus the family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent to The Bhupinder Sandhu Scholarship Fund c/o Narinder Sandhu, 613 Superior Street, Carnegie, PA 15106.
Funeral and cremation will be held in California on Sunday, October 7th at Cypress Mortuary 3953 Imperial Avenue San Diego from 9 –11AM with a prayer service (Kirtan/Langar) from 1-3PM at Del Dios Middle School, 1400 West 9th avenue, Escondido, CA on the same day.
