

Candido (“Ding”) Velasquez Medina, age 87, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026. A beloved husband, father of four, grandfather to ten and friend and adopted grandfather to so many, Ding is survived by devoted children Marla (husband David); son Gale; son Glenn (wife Stephanie); and daughter Mildred (husband Mike) and loving grandchildren Sofia, Alyssa, Christian, Justin, Caitlin, Isabella, Jalen (with ex-wife Jacklyn), Max, Grace, and Luz. Ding and his wife, Baby (d 2025), was born and raised in the Philippines where he lived until 1978 when he and Baby immigrated to the United States to raise their children. Ding and Baby were childhood sweethearts and married for over 60 years. In their golden years, Ding and Baby were known to sit and hold hands while listening to their music for hours in the day.
Ding was known as the cook of the family….always welcoming and bringing together everyone to gather and share love, laughter, and stories. Many of those stories came from his career as a ship repairman at the Ship Repair Facility (SRF) in Subic Bay, Philippines, the 32nd Street Naval Station, and the Naval Base in Coronado. Ding leaves behind a legacy of love, family and hardwork - a strong and unwavering soul known for his kindness and generous spirit.
