Carlyn W Kelley

Carlyn Wolcott Kelley, born November 13th, 1927, in the seaside community of La Jolla California. She passed away peacefully on September 2nd, 2026. She lived 98 years with a gentle spirit, a keen eye for beauty, and heartfelt desire to make the world a better place.

Raised near the ocean she adored, Carlyn spent her childhood listening to the steady rhythm of the waves and collecting seashells and smooth stones along the shore. Nature shaped her early imagination. She noticed the shapes of clouds, the shifting colors of trees, and the quiet details that many overlook. This sensitivity blossomed into a lifelong passion for art and interior design. Carlyn had an extraordinary ability to see harmony where others saw ordinary spaces, and she carried that gift into every home, every project, and every moment she touched.

Carlyn also had a deep love for animals and found joy in their companionship throughout her life. She delighted in dancing, embracing music and movement as another way to express her appreciation for beauty and joy.

As an adult, Carlyn felt a strong responsibility to contribute to her community. She volunteered tirelessly with Friends of the Library, the Women’s Republican group, and her local Rotary Club. She believed deeply in the importance of educating younger generations and preserving the stories of our nation’s past. Carlyn loved sharing her knowledge of World War I and World War II, offering history not as distant facts but as lived experiences meant to be remembered and understood.

Her passion for art extended beyond her own creative eye. Carlyn was a devoted member of the San Diego Museum of Art and the Timken Museum of Art, making regular visits to appreciate new exhibits and immerse herself in the inspiration they offered. These visits were a cherished part of her life, reflecting her lifelong commitment to learning, beauty, and culture.

During her years in Los Angeles, Carlyn was also a business owner alongside her now-deceased husband. Together, they built and operated their business with dedication, creativity, and a shared sense of purpose-another example of Carlyn’s drive, resilience, and ability to bring her vision to life.

Carlyn was friendly, warm, and endlessly appreciative of life. Her friendships were precious to her, and she had a rare ability to listen deeply and offer thoughtful, grounded advice when asked. She made people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Above all, Carlyn was devoted to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Maureen, and is preceded in death by her son, Arthur. Carlyn loved her children with her whole heart and spoke often of how proud she was of both of them, celebrating their accomplishments and the lives they built. Her love for them was constant, joyful, and unwavering.

Carlyn will be remembered for her creativity, her kindness, her commitment to service, and her ability to find beauty in the everyday. Her legacy lives on in the spaces she shaped, the people she inspired, and the gentle, thoughtful way she moved through the world.
