Carmen Castro Waasted

July 16, 1930 - March 7, 2019.

Our beloved Carmie was born in Davidson City, California to Miguel and Julia Castro, both of Jalisco, Mexico. She had six siblings: Mary Juarez, Jose Castro, Miguel Castro Jr, Francisco “Pancho” Castro, Enrique “Lique” Castro, and Rose Mayoral.

As a resident of San Diego for over 82 years, Carmen proudly raised three lovely daughters: Eldest Yvonne Marquez (Agustin), and twins Yvette Vazquez and Jeanette Escobedo (Frank).

She was also a Matriarch to 5 Grandchildren Lesa Thode (Eric), Michelle Noriega (Brian), Jennifer Escobedo, Tamara Russo (John), Frank V Escobedo (Cynthia). Carmen adored her 6 Great Grandchildren Megan Thode, Emilio Escobedo, Oliver Thode, Morgan Whitt, Tayler Russo, and Austin Russo.

Carmen exemplified an extremely strong work ethic to her family with over 42 years in the Aerospace Industry. During that time she worked with industry leaders such as Essex, Convair, General Dynamics and GD Electronics.

In retirement, Carmen loved to travel the world with her family while swing dancing the big bands or cruising the Bahamas. Content in life experience, Carmen became an avid fan of the San Diego Padres where she was a season ticket holder for almost two decades.

Private Family Services will be held Wednesday March 13 at El Camino Memorial Park.

A celebration of life to be held with family and friends in early summer.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks for donations to the San Diego Padres Foundation in Carmen’s name.
