Carrie Melinda Wood

March 13, 1990September 4, 2020

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the sudden passing of Carrie Melinda Wood, of La Mesa, California, on September 4th, 2020, at age of 30.

She will be remembered by her father, Jesse Wood, her brother, John (Whitney) Wood, as well as numerous relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her mother, who she loved deeply, Margaret Wood.

Carrie was born and raised in La Mesa, CA. She was an avid athlete, who earned varsity letters in Tennis and Water Polo. She graduated from Grossmont High School, class of 2008, and received her bachelor’s degree from the San Francisco State University, class of 2015. After graduating, Carrie moved back to San Diego, to help care for her mother, who battled against Alzheimer’s. Carrie created the most wonderfully artistic succulent planters and would often be found with her loving companion, Leroy Brown, the baddest dog in town. She loved to spend time with her friends, exploring the beaches and mountains of California.

Interment ceremonies will occur on September 20th, 2020, at Cypress View Mausoleum, 3953 Imperial Ave, San Diego, CA 92113, at 11:00am. Afterwards, a celebration of life will be held at the Water Conservation Garden, 12122 Cuyamaca College Drive West, El Cajon, CA 92019, from 12:30pm to 2pm. Both events will require standard covid protocols including masks and social distancing for attendance. There will be an internet broadcast of both ceremonies for those unable to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Carrie’s name can be made to one of her favorite organizations, Alzheimer’s San Diego, 6632 Convoy Ct, San Diego, CA 92111, or Rachel’s Women’s Center, 759 Eighth Ave, San Diego, CA 9210.

I will miss seeing and taking care of Carrie at her dental office. She was a sweet girl who grew into a beautiful , fun , loving lady. I am so sad for her passing and my prayers are with Jesse, John and
the family, and Leroy Brown.
Sending hugs, Linda Fernandes

Carrie was a charming and delightful niece. I and Susan always enjoyed talking with her whenever we were able to visit the Wood residence in San Diego or family gatherings at the Mercer Island home of her grandmother, D. Chandler.

I met Carrie when she started dating my son, Riley. I found her to be a lovely, smart, funny and wise young woman. Her beauty was internal as well as physical, her humor often caught me by surprise as she made me laugh out loud with her perceptions about the absurdities she perceived around her. She was a very unique and special person, a beautiful spirit who was taken way too soon. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. May she rest in peace and love. Lisa

Forever a picture on your office wall... a young smiling Carrie, sitting next to her brother on the concrete steps... a reminder to me of something all fathers work for... late nights... demanding clients... many untold sacrifices... all for the love of our children... a true love language... our dedicated act of service... not always understood... not always appreciated... but love nonetheless... I saw how much you loved your family by how hard you worked for them... yes, but just one facet of your expression of love... but one that I am proud to have witnessed... two tragedies in two years... and one that should have never happened in your lifetime... my heart breaks for you dear friend... I pray you focus on your love for them... and celebrate their lives by remembering them fondly... by the beauty they brought into your life... and honor them by living your life to the fullest...

For you and your family, I pray...
