Conrad I. Woloszyn, of San Diego, California passed away on February 23, 2022 at the age of 96. Conrad answered the Lord's call for him to come home after months of declining health. He died peacefully with his beloved wife Frances and daughter Susan, by his side.
Conrad was born in Rochester, New York on July 30, 1925, to father Frank Woloszyn and mother Katherine Woloszyn. He was the youngest of thirteen siblings. After high school, Conrad chose to follow his siblings into the military. He served in the US Army and deployed to the Pacific Theater in support of WWII. Earning the rank of T-Sgt, Conrad's medals include: the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the Purple Heart. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he met and married his wife of 74 years, Frances. They went on to open Conrad's Delicatessen, which they owned and operated for many years. He later went to work for General Dynamics and US Airways Airline before retiring. The family went on many vacations together over the years. Conrad and Frances's vacations included multiple worldwide destinations to Poland, France and Italy where he had an audience with Pope John Paul II in 1997. Aside from his family, Conrad remembers this as his most cherished moment in history.
Conrad is remembered as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather (Papa). Conrad was a life of St. Stanislaus Church in Rochester, New York.
Conrad is preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his spouse, Frances; children Susan (Steve) Schmitz, Christine. Grandchildren; Todd Schmitz and Traci (Danny) Prater. Great-grandchildren Kalissa Schmitz, Colby Schmitz, Tyler Schmitz, Ashton Prater, Olivia Prater and Braden Prater; and several nieces and nephews.
Conrad was intent on living to be 100 years old- it was his goal, however, the Lord had other plans for him, calling him to his Kingdom. He had lived an incredibly long life and was very active- a hard worker who was climbing ladders until well into his 80s. He not only worked on his own home and other construction projects, he also helped his family and friends with any projects they had. Conrad didn't let Colon cancer, a quadruple bypass or macular degeneration slow him down for long. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, asking for so little in life.
Conrad took great pleasure in owning and maintaining his automobiles while he was able to drive, as well as a sailboat. He enjoyed playing the organ and piano. Listening to his grandchildren play the piano, always made him happy. In addition to watching his Lawrence Welk program regularly on the television, music was one of his favorite pastimes. He could listen to music for hours at a time. He always looked dapper- dressing up to impress his wife. He had a charismatic personality, always captivating an audience, especially with his bright beautiful blue eyes. He took the time to listen to everyone and he was very firm in his principles, morals and values. He was extremely loyal and supportive of his family. The family tested his patience for sure, but he responded only with love. His daughter and grandchildren are especially proud of him and grateful for the many years and a long daily life together. It isn't something a lot of families get to experience. There will never be another Papa. He is irreplaceable.
The family is extremely grateful for his therapists (physical and respiratory), as well as his caregiving team.
Mass and a memorial service for Conrad is planned for March 22, 2022 at 11AM at Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church followed by the interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at 1:30PM.
