Crispin Mangosing Sahagun was born in San Felipe, Zambales, Philippines on October 15,1925 to his late father Calixto Paudan Sahagun & late mother Dominga Abrenica Mangosing. Dad was the second oldest of nine siblings: Arturo, Margarita, Wilfredo, Gerardo, Marcial, Francisco, Cecilio and Zenaida Sahagun Manglicmot. Dad didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education and due to hardship in the family, he joined the US Navy in April 2, 1945 at age 16; however, he was advised by his uncle to tell the recruiter he was 18 years old. He served the US Navy for over 7 years but due to an illness he was honorably discharged. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, America Area Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal. After a few years of recovery from his illness, he went back to the workforce and continued as a federal employee at the US Naval Station in San Diego and Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar and retired after 20 years of service at the age of 65.
In 1955, Dad Crispin met mother Martha Pineda, a widow with two daughters, Diana, 18 and Andree, 17 years old. The following year, dad and mother Martha married at a quaint chapel in San Diego. They enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe with their friends, Rosie and the late Marcos Abad. After 27 years in the US, dad decided to visit the Philippines with mom Martha in 1973. They then adopted Myrna and brought her to the US, raised her and became a nurse (RN). They had a good life together until mother Martha passed away in October, 1997.
Dad enjoyed going to the dog and horse races with his friends, gardening, passing time playing cards (poker, solitaire) and mahjong with his townmates. He was also an active member of the San Diego Club of San Felipe for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Myrna Sahagun Fontanares married to Arlex Fulinara Fontanares, his brother Gerardo married to the late Maria Delos Santos, Cecilio married to Elena Eclevia, and sister Zenaida married to the late Rolando Manglicmot (+), stepdaughters Diana Liuag and Andree (Jack) Thomerson; five grandchildren, Mark (Juanita) Liuag, Keith Liuag, Dana Liuag (Scott) Hasted, Leslie Thomerson (Marc) Yahnian, Curran (Janet) Thomerson; eight great grandchildren, Ryan Hasted, Stephanie Liuag, Kristie Liuag, Taylor Hasted (Tony) Russell, Nathan Liuag, Jacob Liuag, Connor Thomerson, Jordan Thomerson; and three great great grandchildren, Jack and Travis Hasted, and Sophie Russell.
Crispin lineage begins with his grandparents: Ciriaco Sahagun and Susan Paudan/Eustaquio and Lorenza Abrenica. They raised 4 children including his father, Calixto. He predeceased his brothers; Arturo married to Ramona Fortin, Marcial married to Luz Reglos, Wilfredo married to Susana Corpuz, Francisco married to Teresita Abiva and sister, Margarita.
His loving kindness and winsome smiles will be sorely missed by all especially his family and friends. He will leave a lot of memories to his daughter, stepdaughters, brothers, sister and numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, relatives, and friends.
We love you very much and thank you for your service. May the angels and saints help and provide you with a peaceful journey to our Heavenly Father. Farewell and Rest in Peace
