Cristeta "Titay" Olan Dangue, age 97, of San Diego, California passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. Cristeta was born October 27, 1923 in Inosluban, Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines to Juan Dangue and Maria Olan. She has a sister, now deceased, Lucia Dangue.
Cristeta is survived by six children: Benjamin Lindog, Aristedes Lindog, Rosaida Villena, Marites Guevara, Teresita Reyes and Gloria Reyes. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Cristeta married Silverio Lindog, who died at 26 years old and after only three years of marriage. The Huks and Balahaps at the time tried to invade and rob our home after the Depression. Silverio passed from a gunshot wound as he was protecting his wife and two young sons, Benji (age 2) and Teddy (age 1). She was mourning the death of her husband when she found out she was two months pregnant with her daughter Saida. As a sign of her grief, Cristeta wore black for 12 years until she met and married Marciano Olan. They were blessed with three daughters: Tess, Tessie and Gloan. Unfortunately, Marciano also died very young from a tractor accident while he was farming their land business.
As a widow and mom of six children, Cristeta did everything she could to build a happy and healthy life for her family. She became a very successful businesswomen, starting with a piece of land with borrowed money. She also owned a textile business. She took every opportunity to grow her small businesses and purchase more land. She became quite known for her agricultural businesses: rice, corn, coconuts, and became quite successful with her sugar cane plantation. She accomplished so much on her own, and was able to send three of her children to college.
Cristeta immigrated to the United States in 1981, living in San Diego, CA and Baltimore, MD. Aside from her devotion, Cristeta loved raising many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed gardening, babysitting kids from the neighborhood, rolling her own sigarilyo, sewing and embroidery.
Cristeta was smart and independent. She was a problem-solver who made things happen. She treated people with kindness and humility. She was warm and funny, and loved to sing and dance. Her family appreciated the delicious meals she made, and especially loved the caramels and other treats she’d sneak the kids when no one was looking. Cristeta lived humbly and was so generous, always ready with cash to hand out at parties and holidays.
Cristeta loved her family unconditionally – and was supportive no matter what. She taught her family to feel and express gratitude, she taught them to be strong. Her panata (devotion) was Saint Anthony de Padua, and some of her most important words of guidance were: “It’s all in God’s time. God’s grace and blessings will come. It’s all in God’s time.” Cristeta will be dearly missed, and her family is proud to share her stories and continue her legacy.
