1921 - 2018
After a rich and purposeful life, Daniel Harding Stinemates, age 97, died on Veteran’s Day November 11, 2018. He was born in Chester, Idaho. His family moved to Chelan, Washington, where he spent his childhood and graduated from Chelan High School. Dan was a student at the University of California at Berkeley when WWII started and he enlisted in the Navy.
During his 31 years of service Dan was a naval officer and fighter pilot who served in the WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars including air cover for General MacArthur’s return to Leyte Gulf (Battle of the Philippines). After retirement he worked as a bank trust officer. He was active in Kiwanis where he served as president of the La Jolla Club, Lt Governor of Division 21, and president of the Cal-Nev-Ha District Foundation. Dan was a stalwart of the La Jolla Club for forty years. He is remembered and honored for his service to our country, his community and Kiwanis.
Dan loved family and friends, playing golf and San Diego Padres baseball. He is survived by his two daughters, Patty (Jim) Hall, Sandy (George) LaRue.
His grandchildren: Jennifer (Dan) Irvine, Stephanie (Sean) Rooney, Jeff (Angelica) Hodges, Danny Hodges, Michael (Raina) Hodges, and step-grandchildren Lane LaRue, Max LaRue and Fletcher LaRue.
His great-grandchildren: Isabella, Ethan, Rowan, Evrett, Alexandria, Juliet, Thea, Michael.
He is predeceased in death by his first wife of 46 years, Geraldine “Jerry” Stinemates (who died in 1991), by his second wife Edith Stinemates (who died in 2018) and by all of his brothers and sisters: Bill Stinemates, Eva Mumford, Edna Case, Fran Belanger, Martel Stinemates.
The family wants to acknowledge and thank his primary caregiver Johnnie Rimas and the team of caregivers for bringing dignity and happiness to his last years and months.
