David Brown passed away at home in San Diego on February 5, 2023. David was born in Oakland, California, On October 13, 1933 the son of Beulah Borden Moody and Earle William Brown. Born and raised in the Bay Area, throughout his lifetime he lived in Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco and Piedmont.
David graduated from University of California, Berkeley in 1956, then served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard until 1959. He found his lifetime “work” home at UC Berkeley, in the College of Engineering, where he gave 30 years of devotion to the growth and success of the school. David was a big Bear supporter, attending many Cal football and rugby games, and followed their seasons throughout his adult life.
In 1963 David married Patricia Mae DeWitt wherein they started their life together first living in Berkeley and then moving to Piedmont where they raised their two daughters. David shared his love of boating with his family. He was found either water skiing or snow skiing throughout his life. He enjoyed jazz music. His joy of traveling took him all over the world, two of his favorite places to visit with Patty and his family were Clear Lake and Maui.
David is survived by his loving Wife of 59 years, Patricia DeWitt Brown, his two daughters, Victoria Moats (Thomas) and Elizabeth Brown (Samisoni), and five grandchildren, Jessica Moats, Kenneth Moats, Ryan Moats, Noah Molimoli and Olivia Molimoli.
