Born in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanganyika Territory (Tanzania), the third of five brothers, Dharam was the first in his family to pursue higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from University of London in 1965. He spent a decade living and working in the UK and Europe before returning to Tanzania, where he designed and built roads and bridges that connected communities throughout the country.
In 1969, Dharam married his beloved wife, Smt. Damayanti, with whom he shared nearly 57 years of devotion and partnership. Together, they raised four children: Kalpana, Minesh, Ajay, and Jigna. In 1981, driven by his commitment to providing better opportunities for his family and his deep love of education, Dharam, Damayanti, and their children moved to California, where they built a new life.
Dharam lived simply, guided by the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita and an unwavering devotion to his family. He embodied the values of service to parents and family; ahimsa in action, speech, mind, and deed; and kindness to all. A silent pillar of strength, he gave his children the courage to strive and dream.
He is survived by his wife, his children, and his cherished grandchildren, as well as his extended family—he was everyone’s Dada and Nana. His gentle wisdom, steadfast faith, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The viewing and prayers will start at 10:00 am on January 22, 2026, at Cypress View Mausoleum Mortuary, 3953 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113. A private cremation, for family only, will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shri Mandir San Diego in the memory of Shri Dharam Babla, at https://shrimandirsandiego.org/Shrimandir/donate.
