Donald David Sondys

Don was our rock. His laughter and corny jokes filled our home, and his calm presence made even the hardest days easier. Don deeply loved his children and wife. He could be seen cheering them on at their events.

He loved sailing, designing home projects, barbequing, and relaxing in the pool on hot days. Following his 30 plus year career at Nissan Design America as a master of digital modeling and product visualization, he became an instructor and mentor at NewSchool of Architecture and Design in San Diego. He enjoyed passing his passion and knowledge of design, visualization and 3D modeling on to his students. He encouraged others to be students of life and to stay kind. His warmth and humor filled gatherings, and he sought to strengthen his community by fostering connections, creating belonging, and forging relationships.

He also taught us that love is demonstrated most in the small things — patience, care, acts of service, and quality time. He met his wife, Cindy, at the university and together they built a life in San Diego rich with love, family, laughter, travel, and shared adventures. He was a believer in service to God and his community, which he demonstrated through sharing his time and support freely.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Don’s life at the Lotus Chapel at El Camino Memorial Park and Cemetery. The viewing will be from 3pm-7pm, which will include a Vigil from 4pm-5pm. In honor of his giving nature, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.

The Funeral mass will be held at 11am at The Church of the Nativity at 6309 El Apajo Road, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067

Don was preceded in death by his father, Donald, Mother, Joanne, and brother, Bruce. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, daughter, Kristin, and son, Trevor; and his brother, Mark (Jill), and sister Janet.
