Donato Bonora (1932-2019): Donato Bonora, just three days shy of his 87th birthday, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2019, surrounded by family. A man of true integrity, wisdom, and love for his family, Donato touched the lives of all who knew him. He always inspired and encouraged his family and young people that they could accomplish anything they set their minds to do.
At a very young age, Donato left his small town in Italy to go to Rome where he studied and trained in the fine art of clothing design and custom tailoring. With his passion for excellence and detail, he later moved to New York where he opened his own, very successful, custom tailoring business, which he continued in Del Mar, California, for over 25 years, called Donato Bonora Custom Tailoring. He also ventured in the restaurant business, bringing very fine, authentic Italian cuisine to La Jolla where he started his award-winning restaurant called “Taste of Rome.”
Donato enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling to Italy, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a very independent, intelligent and hard-working man with an entrepreneurial spirit, who always put his family first. He will be fondly remembered as a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone. Donato is survived by his wife Adriana of 61 years, and their two children, a wonderful daughter-in-law, and five grandchildren. He was an extraordinary man and will be dearly missed. It gives his family great comfort knowing he lived an exceptional life and is now at peace. A private funeral service will be held on August 6th per his request.
