Dorothy Ann Billig, 87, of San Diego, California, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025. Dorothy was born on January 6, 1938 in Norwich, Connecticut, to Frank Algiere and Mary Walusiak. Dorothy was a devoted spouse of Jon Billig for 29 years. She was also a cherished parent to Montie Smith and Alek Chernik and a beloved grandparent to Colton Smith.
Dorothy was employed for 16 years at San Diego Unified School District and worked in the cafeteria at many schools in the Clairemont area. She retired in 2002 to spend more time with her family. Dorothy was known as a kind person who always liked to find ways to help others. She had a love for basketball and loved watching the UConn women’s basketball team, especially when they won the National Championship this year.
A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 14th, at 10 am at El Camino Memorial Park in Sorrento Valley. Donations can be made to St. Jude Research in Dorothy's memory instead of flowers.
Dorothy will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.
