Edgar Umayam Hermogino passed away on January 15, 2019. He was born on November 25, 1969 in Candelaria, Zambales, Philippines, to Carlito Echaluse Hermogino and Virginia Alegre Umayam Hermogino. He graduated high school in 1989 where he found his calling in the military from the AFJROTC. After graduation, he set off to boot camp at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA and proudly served in the United States Navy as an Independent Duty Corpsman. He served 20+ years in the U.S. Navy with several tours and deployments. He also served in the Gulf War in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. After retiring as U.S. Navy Chief in 2009, he continued to serve with the Department of Veterans Affairs in La Jolla, CA as a Program Specialist. Eddie met the love of his life, Vivian, and married in Guam on June of 1993. They moved to San Diego, CA and settled in Mira Mesa with their beloved daughters Aimee, 19 and Gabrielle, 17. Eddie and Vivian offered their support with the Mira Mesa High School AFJROTC, their children’s schools and various non-profit organizations, their church, and community. They completed several half marathons together including the San Diego Half Marathon Triple Crown Series and participated in several outdoor athletic events like the Rugged Maniac, Boot Camp Challenge and Navy Seal’s Foundation Joggin’ for Frogmen. He was also a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project, just to name a few. They enjoy hiking, camping and most importantly spending quality time with his family. Eddie is a devoted Catholic who strongly believed in the Will of God. He had even supported Aimee and Gabrielle in their practice of faith as well, as he volunteered in the Good Shepherd Youth Ministry as a youth minister going on trips with them as far as the live-in retreat at Whispering Winds in Julian with his daughters. He also volunteered alongside Vivian during her 5 years of Catechism at the Good Shepherd Parish Faith Formation classes. Eddie is a very committed Catholic who strongly believed that God is not an option, but a necessity. Having several relatives in the states, Guam, Philippines and other countries, Eddie was always the "Kuya" that everyone looked up to. He had words of wisdom and the stature that exudes confidence and respect. His siblings include Nilda (& Lito) Marzan, Vilma (& Colin) Pasqualetto, Arnel (& Anna) Hermogino, Albert (& Jun) Hermogino and Rex (& Randy Angell) Hermogino.
