Mrs. Edwina “Winnie” Hall Bixby, of Terrace Park, Ohio, born on May 2, 1942 in Cincinnatti, Ohio, passed away on April 8, 2018 in San Diego. Previous to her retirement in California, she had resided many years in Oak Park, Illinois where she raised her family. Winnie worked in both New York and Chicago. She was a loyal Cubs fan and was able to see the Cubs win the World Series!
Winnie was preceded in death by her brother, Horace Allen Bixby. She is survived by her son, Doug Mackey ; daughter, Ashley West; brother, William Bixby; and sister, Jane Bixby Favela. Winnie was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church in North Park. She was a volunteer at Salvation Army Food Program for the Homeless and San Diego Zoo Botanical Garden.
Winnie's warmth and grace especially attracted children and animals. You could always count on a smile with her signature “well, hello there!”greeting. She was like a welcoming beacon in the neighborhood and will be missed by all. The family invites donations in lieu of flowers in Edwina Bixby’s name to The American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
Friends and family are welcome to attend the memorial service, officiated by Laurel and Colin Mathewson, on Saturday, April 21 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St Lukes Church, 3725 30th Street, San Diego, California, 92104.
