Effie Lean Cockerham

Effie Lean Cockerham, lovingly known as Effie Lean, was the fifth child of six born to Gordon and Mozilla Washington. She received her education from Shady Grove High School and Robertson Business College in Monroe, Louisiana. Effie was baptized and came to know the Lord at an early age.

Effie met her husband Gene Cockerham in Saline, Louisiana. They were married on June 25, 1960 in San Diego, California, where they made their home. To this blessed union five children were born, Charlotte, Raymond, Carolyn, Jerry and Betty.

In 2001 after twenty six years of dedicated service, Effie retired from the San Diego Unified School District as the Principal's Secretary. She enjoyed witnessing and sharing the love of Christ with those around her throughout her life.

Effie was preceded in death by her daughter Charlotte Cockerham; parents Gordon and Mozilla Washington; sibling's Louise Isaac, Inez Livingston and Clinton Washington. Effie is survived by her husband Gene Cockerham; children Raymond Cockerham, Carolyn Wiley her husband Wayne, Jerry Cockerham and Dr. Betty Cockerham; three grandchildren Candace Pereira-De-Sa, Rose Cockerham and Raymond Cockerham; one great-grand child Antwan Kingdom; two sisters Icy Bradford and Estelle Washington and a host of extended family members and friends.

Effie was known for her kind, and peaceful Spirit. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her on this side of heaven.
