How sad I am to hear this news and know I will not be able to visit and laugh with her one more time. She was so grounded with common sense and life experiences that it allowed her to share wisdom with those of us who had a tendency to flounder through life. Pepper had a joyous inclusive personality. When it was time to learn to sail around Subic Bay and dodge the local pirates and Navy submarines we were all on board with it. Our golf games included fighting off local troops of monkeys, avoiding cobras in the rough, and hauling ourselves up steep inclines trying to find our golf balls. How rich our lives were because of this wonderful friend and mentor.

Pepper embodied the best of life: warmth, honesty, humor, positivity, and a beautiful soul. I met her as a new teacher and knew she would play a key role in my development. I am blessed to have known her for many years while teaching together at Central School in National City. She always made time to support the young and worried teacher that I was. She was a wonderful colleague with a work ethic and a fearless and approachable manner that I hope I bring forward in my own career. As a friend, she was always thoughtful and caring. Knowing how many lives she improved and touched in her life, I will take some comfort knowing Pepper lives on in those of us lucky enough to have called her friend, colleague, teacher, and neighbor. Peace to Pepper and all who miss her physical presence in their lives.

Pepper's passing has left a hole in our hearts. Her quick wit, love of life, and crackling laughter will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was a dear friend, travel companion, sailing partner, and liberty buddy at Subic Bay, Philippines. The memories of the extraordinary times there, will live on in our minds. Pepper was a global citizen, with international adventures during her teaching career, which spanned three continents. Her zeal for life was inspiring, and her love of adventure was contagious. She was a natural teacher, with a positive, can-do attitude, and a wonderful sense of humor. She was a dedicated and dear friend, and one of a kind. We are all richer for her love and friendship, and miss her deeply.

I am very saddened to hear of the loss of my neighbor, Pepper. When I first moved onto our cul-de-sac, she was the first person who knocked on my front door and gave me a welcome to the neighborhood basket. She and Marti were wonderful people. They were generous with themselves and their laughter. I miss them both. Stephanie schulte-love
