Elvira Tavares Luz

July 28, 1932November 23, 2018

July 28, 1932 – November 23, 2018 Elvira (Tavares) Luz, also known as Vera; passed away peacefully in the presence of her family, on November 23, 2018 at the age of 86. Vera was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was deeply devoted to her family and a source of strength for them. She also provided care to both her parents and brother during their illnesses. Vera was married to Roman Luz Sr. for 27 yrs. After parting ways they both still loved and cared for one another.

Vera treasured her Portuguese community of Pt. Loma. Whether she was helping with fundraisers, joining friends on bus trips to plays or casinos, or working with UPPEC committees, she loved it all. Vera’s commitment to helping others was demonstrated by her 25-year career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked in a convalescent hospital and, following retirement, continued to enjoy socializing with her fellow nurse friends for many years.

Although Vera was unable to continue her activities in recent years due to declining health, her love for her family was constant. Her smile and gentle touch will be deeply missed. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, love to those in need, and providing for them unselfishly in so many ways. The family would like to thank all the loving and amazing caregivers who watched over Vera these past six years. Special gratitude is expressed to Sandra Day who organized round-the-clock care this last year. Vera is survived by her three children: Roman Luz Jr., Nancy Correia (Mark), and Nadine Anderson (Andy); three grandchildren: Roman Luz III (Jadine), Desiree Lauterbach (Jason), Michelle Correia (Josh); and nine great-grandchildren: Bryden and Ellia Luz; Macy and Jason Mohrlock; Andrew Luz; Tristan Mischind; and Bella, Bo, and Sterling Lauterbach. Vera was predeceased by her parents Antonio & Estefania Tavares; her brother, Tony; and a grandson, Jason M. Correia.

You are invited to celebrate Vera’s life with her family. Services are scheduled for Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass. Private burial to follow.
