Eric Rudolph Alquero was born on June 29, 1983 at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, and left this life on May 26, 2022 at age 38 at Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California. He is remembered lovingly by his friends and family as a selfless, genuine, thoughtful, and caring person.
When he was 3 years old, he moved to San Diego with his parents. About a year later, his sisters April and Karen arrived from the Philippines and met their little brother for the first time.
In the beginning, even though his older sisters did not speak much English, and Eric did not speak Tagalog or Kapampangan, they were able to understand each other. He was affectionately called Kuya (older brother) by his little sister, Michelle. He was the only boy among his siblings but they all played together well as children.
Eric went to Angier Elementary School in Serra Mesa, then transferred to Ericson Elementary when his family moved to Mira Mesa in 1993. He attended Challenger Middle School, and biked to school everyday as he loved biking since he was a little boy. He graduated from Mira Mesa High School in 2001, then went to Miramar College. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts from University of California San Diego in 2008. His first job was at Petco, where he met many of his closest friends, then he worked at Mom’s Pharmacy, which led to his career at Rady Children’s Hospital.
Eric would put together a free Halloween house for the community at his mom's house almost every year, called "Free Fright on Halloween Night." He has been in several community 4th of July parades, and won an award in 2007 for 1st Place Decorated Vehicle where the theme was "A Salute to Our Military."
He had a passion for movies, Comic-Con, biking, WWE, spending time with friends and family, video games, and much more. He was very creative with his DIY projects. He hand sewed iconic stuffed animal pants and jacket and made a PSFurr - which was a portable PS4. He loved and cared for all animals. He loved stickers - making them, sticking them places, and he gave them out by asking anyone and everyone, "Do you want a sticker?" He loved anything biking and BMX. He would ensure those around him were always having a good time. If he could attend an event, he would. He liked to take the scenic route in his van to wherever his destination was because he liked to explore. He kept things he treasured, like his baby pillow, stuffed animals and action figures from when he was a child, tickets to concerts, and much more.
Eric's final selfless gesture before he left this life was donating his organs to those in need.
He is preceded in passing by his oldest sister Carina, and survived by his mother Thelma, step-father Tony, older sisters April and Karen, younger sister Michelle, niece Kaeden, and brother-in-law Fernando.
A visitation for Eric was held on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121.
