

Eugene Howard Scarlett passed away at his home in San Diego, California on March 4, 2016 with family by his side. Born in Saint Louis, Missouri May 16, 1930 to Parents Eugene Howard Scarlett and Alice Jenn and welcomed by his sister Elizabeth Jean. He spent his early years in Cape Girardeau, working for 10 cents an hour at his father’s department store. This is where he met and married his first wife Luise Scarlett on January 27, 1953. He had just enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Milwaukie this is where their first son Michael David was born. After two years they returned to Cape Girardeau where he worked selling insurance and completing his college degree at South East Missouri State. During this time, they also added two more children to the family, Jeffrey Philip and Theresa Ellen. In 1963 he reenlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in beautiful San Diego, California where he embraced the southern California lifestyle. He enjoyed many tours of duty in his 30-year career, some of the more memorable were on the USS Durham serving as the Captain’s writer and later his assignment to train the Saudi Arabian Navel Yeomen at Naval Training Center. He retired from the US Navy in 1988 as a Chief Petty Officer. Divorced in 1989 and later remarried to Soledad Alono Delos Santos. They had many happy years together enjoying each other’s company, inseparable in their golden years. Their life was also enriched by Solly’s three adult children Roy, Hollis and Annalee. He will be missed by many including both wives, all of their children and his nephew Randy Taylor. He will be laid to rest on Friday, April 8, 12:30 at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, California 92122.
