Footprints of Evangeline Tuazon (Part 3 )

They finally reach the end of the journey, The Gates Of Heaven. At the front of the gates are faint figures, getting clearer as they approach.

Standing first in front of them is Eva’s Dad. (My Grandfather George). “Long time no see my daughter, I have missed you soooo much!”, her Dad says with a tone of sadness but with accompanying relief.

My Mother’s eyes welled up with tears but before she could cry out loud, another figure appeared. He has a full beard and moustache, also with kind eyes like Jesus… but this was her Brother (My Uncle Danny). “Hey Sister, I missed you too!”

My Mom wanted to reach out and grab Him but she heard a familiar voice that gave her pause. “Hi my Daughter, welcome Home.” My Mom sees her Mother (My Lola Betty).

“Mommy? I’ve missed you sooooo much!” Eva sobbed.

“I know Anak, I missed you too! Mahal Kita!”, Lola said.

My Mom starts to walk towards my Lola and then she feels a hand on her nose…preplexed, she follows the hand to its owner…its her other Brother Andoy. He smiles and chuckles, playfully says “HONK! HONK!” As Eva laughs with Andoy, she hears another voice.

“Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse Meeeeeeeeeee, Jesuuuuuuuuuuuus!”, shaking her head and neck from left to right with a sassy attitude, it's my Auntie Christie, my Mom’s sister. “Can you move, so I can hug my Sister?!?” Auntie Christie gives that stare…the stare that means business.

Jesus raises his hands up and backs away in jest, and the 2 Sisters hug.

Eva, partly confused and increasingly getting irritated says, “OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO KKKKKKKKKKKKKKK Jeeeeeeeeeeessssuuuuuuussss, What is so funny, EEEEEEEEEmanueeeeeeeeeeellllll?!?”, my Mom shaking her head and neck from left to right in a sassy attitude…. << PAUSE >> Authors Note: OK, my Mom would never do that… I did throw that in for dramatic effect. << End PAUSE >>

Jesus finally picks himself up, brushing off the sand on his robe. “Well, Eva…where you see 2 sets of footprints and then one… is when YOU picked me up!”

Half astonished and relieved, my Mom laughs along with Jesus.

“You always think of others before your own, and instead of me picking you up, YOU picked me up first!” Jesus chuckled.

My Mom felt at peace.

This is a story of what Anthony imagined, spoken through Anthony, of what happened during his Mom’s passing… This story may sound familiar but is reimagined through my eyes.

September 29th 2026… My Mom passes….

My Mom, Eva, wakes up on the beach. It feels like early morning, just enough light, not too bright with that morning cold that stings a little when you breathe but not in a bad way…refreshing as if the beach was waking you up and welcoming you.

Eva looks around and sees another figure besides her.

He is tall, slender, moustache and beard…kind eyes.

“Jesus?”my Mom asks but she already knows the answer.

“Yes, Eva” he extends out his hand in acceptance.

“What is this?” my Mom questions.

“This is everywhere and nowhere” Jesus explains while waving his hand across the whole beach. “This is between your Earth and the Heavens, a passageway you can say.”

My Mom looks around, the beach is empty except for her and Jesus. She notices in front of them footprints leading forward to the horizon of the beach, just in front where the water meets the sand. There are 2 sets of footprints walking together.

“Who are those?” curiously my Mom asks.

“Those are your footprints of the journey of your life, through the good times and the bad.” Jesus explains. They start to walk forward, following the footprints. “The other footprints are mine, I’ve been with you all this time.”

They continue to walk, going over events of Eva’s life. From times of great happiness and also of great sorrow. But all throughout Eva’s life, Jesus walked beside her.

Then, near the end of her life, she pauses. She notices that there are only one set of footprints…

“Jesus…, what happened? Did you abandon me?” my Mom sadly expresses.

Jesus looks at my Mom, a grin starts to form on his innocent face, then it turns into a chuckle…. Suddenly he falls to the sand, bursting out in laughter, rolling around in the sand even…
