June 1986 I flew from Virginia, stayed in manong Felino Burlaza’s home., I was 8 months pregnant. That was the time I came to know how kind & caring brother in law to me.
He often called me when he is at work just to let me know that he fixed breakfast before he left to work. He also called me stated “ I am going to the commissary when I get off from work, is there something you need/like” ? that meant a lot to me.
It was early 0500 AM , I knocked his bedroom door, I stated “manong, I’m having a baby” He called his eldest brother, drove his blue Cadillac took me to Grossmont Hospital . It was time for me to deliver my son unexpectedly few weeks earlier. My husband was still in Virginia at the time. Manong Felino was in charge ...thank you.
It was 35 years ago but his act of kindness is instilled in my heart & it will remain in my heart forever. Thank you for your big heart, been loving to your siblings without hesitations.
I cannot repay your kindness but able to return your kindness through some nursing care when you needed some basic care. You will be missed., you knew we loved you. Until we meet again in God’s perfect time.

I am the youngest brother of manong/big brother Felino Abille Burlaza. Many fond memories to share. I was 15 years old when my brother’s ship was stationed in the Philippines, he lived @ Subic Bay with his wife for few years . He used to bring me @ the military base when I had school vacation, showered me with many presents , my first time to taste American candies/chocolates, one of my fondest . He showed so much love to me & the rest of our siblings. He will remain in my heart forever along with my parents , & other siblings who are now in heaven. My dear manong, you will be missed, thank you for everything , I love you, until we meet again.

Felino Abille Burlaza was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and most importantly, a generous person. To family and friends who knew him best, Felino will be remembered as a compassionate, gracious, and kind person.

He was the son of Anacleto Burlaza & Magdalena Abille.

Felino was raised with ten siblings. He had nine brothers: Agustin, Patrocino, Buenaventura, Juanito, Rodolfo, Andronico, Antonio, Asterio, and Carlito; and one sister, Erlinda. He played a large role in helping his siblings and their families immigrate from the Philippines to the United States to pursue the “American Dream”. Not all of his siblings came, but the ones who made the trip appreciated his assistance and hospitality along the way.

Felino earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from Far Eastern University in the Philippines. He was a life-long learner and he strove to share his wisdom to all who would listen, especially his extended family.

Felino married the first love of his life, Teresita Mozo Ballesteros, in December 1958. They were married for 24-years until Teresita’s untimely death in February 1982.

He married the greatest love of his life, Rosalina Ramos Saulog, in December 1986. Felino and Rose spent the past 34-years of their lives living-out his Golden Years. Empathic, loyal, and a generous man, Felino was strongly committed to loving and providing for his spouses.

Felino spent nearly thirty years serving his country in the United States Navy. He saw action for the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Through his hard work and leadership, he retired as a Senior Chief Disbursing Clerk. After retiring from active duty, Felino continued serving his country as a public servant. He spent fifteen years in the Civil Service and retired as an auditor of Naval ships and military bases.

Felino enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits included gardening, traveling, watching sports, exercise, real estate and spending quality time with family.

Felino found pleasure in sports. Recreational sports included jogging and walking. Felino was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. He was a basketball fan and he cheered for the Los Angeles Lakers for decades.

Felino’s faith was important to him. He was a Roman Catholic and was a parishioner for many years at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in San Diego.

Felino enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included numerous trips to the Philippines (Baguio City, Tambobong, Makati), Hawaii, and various cities in the U.S.

Felino appreciated the unconditional love of dogs. One of his favorites was Barry, a miniature poodle/bichon frise mix. They were best friends for more than 4 years.

Felino passed away on April 7, 2021 at his home in San Diego, California. He is survived by his wife Rosalina; his sons, Mark Anthony and Raymond Andrew; and his brothers Carlito and Asterio. Felino was laid to rest in Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, California.
